Submissions information

Uncertain Stories exists to promote short stories, and we welcome short story submissions from both new and established authors.

We publish high-quality short fiction that takes place more-or-less here, more-or-less now, with a supernatural or speculative edge. If you aren't sure what that means, check out our debut anthology, Broken Ground.

If you'd like to submit work for potential publication in our anthology series, you can do so through our partner publisher The Fiction Desk.

The winter submission call is open now, with a deadline of Friday 30th January, 2026.

You might find the following helpful:

• We currently only consider submissions for our anthology series, which exclusively features previously unpublished short stories. (We aren't looking for stories for the Little Uncertainties right now.)
• We pay for every story we publish, and copyright always remains with the author.
• If you're thinking of sending us your work, we strongly recommend reading Broken Ground, first.
• Please don't post us anything - all submissions should be sent through the submission form at The Fiction Desk.
